Knowing the difference between a validated voucher and one that's not could mean the difference between saving and getting scammed. Our mini-dictionary has a few terms you'll come across when you join the world of vouchers and discount codes.
- Black Friday
- A special event on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day where stores offer highly discounted items.
- Brick and Mortar Store
- A physical location where a business is located.
- Browsing
- The action of looking quickly through information on the internet.
- Checkout
- The point where you pay for purchases, online or in-store.
- Cyber Monday
- A day created by retailers to encourage shopping online through promotional offers on the internet.
- Deal
- A bargain offered by a retailer on items in their store.
- Discount
- A deduction from the regular price of an item.
- Discount Codes
- A series of letters, sometimes in combination with numbers that you can enter at checkout to get a discount.
- Expired
- No longer valid for use.
- Freebie
- Items that you're given free of charge.
- In-Store Voucher
- A ticket you can print out to use for a discount when you shop in a store.
- Loyalty Card
- A card that's given by a retailer to a customer to be used for the collection of credits which will later be used for future discounts.
- Loyalty Program
- A strategy to encourage customers to stay loyal to the brand or retailer by offering exclusive perks for members of the program.
- Manufacturer Vouchers
- Saving tools offered by the manufacturer of a product for use in any store that accepts them.
- Price Match
- When a retailer offers to match or even beat the price of the same product available on a competitor's site.
- Promotion
- A special event where retailers offer bargains and deals in celebration of an event or holiday.
- Redeem
- Trading one thing for another of equal value, for example, trading in a 10% voucher for a discount of the same amount.
- Retailer
- A provider of goods like food, clothing, footwear, appliances, and furniture.
- Rewards Program
- A loyalty program run by retailers that awards points for each purchase and sometimes other perks.
- Delivery Fees
- The amount charged for the delivery of orders from a retailer to the customer's home.
- Validated
- In reference to vouchers and discount codes, this label shows that the codes are authentic.
- Vouchers
- A physical ticket or digital code which you can trade for a discount.
- Voucher Stacking
- Using more than one voucher on a single purchase if the retailer allows it.
